Hounslow railway station

Borough of Hounslow

This borough in the west of London has survived through the years because of transport.  Situated on a main road between London and the West Country, Hounslow has seen many people travelling by foot, horse, or coach. Because of the extremely flat land in this area of London, airfields sprang up in the early 1900’s.  A century later, Heathrow Airport located just across the borough boundary in Hillingdon  is the main centre of air transport today in London and sees millions of people entering and leaving London as well as providing numerous jobs for local people. Hounslow contains open spaces.   From the Barons who held a tournament after signing the Magna Carta in 1215, to the Kings and Queens who hunted on it, to the armies that held military exercises on it, Hounslow has many open spaces. Another main feature of Hounslow is the “Golden Mile, a bypass road built in the 1920’s where many companies had factories. Some of these were Firestone, Gilette and Coty. Even after the decline and closure of these companies, the stretch of motorway is still headquarters for GlaxoSmithKline and British Sky Broadcasting. Notable historic sites in the area of Hounslow include Gunnersbury Park House, which had ties with the Rothschild banking family, and Syon House, which has ties with the Dukes of Northumberland.

Prayer Requests for this Borough

Hownslow

Nov. 17, 2011

Psalm 57:9-10
New Living Translation (NLT)

9 I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.
I will sing your praises among the nations.
10 For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

Please pray for the peoples of Hounslow as it sees many aeroplanes flying over on its final approach to Heathrow.  Bless those from other countries who have settled in this borough. May all who live in Hounslow come to a knowledge of Your faithfulness to them and that it extends beyond their natural sight.

NO!  It’s not about taking your old sofa down to the beach or trying to stand up on it while strapped to the roof of the car.  It’s about making deep connections with people who live in your adopted borough!
