Borough of Harrow

This outer London borough is situated in the northwest corner of the Greater London area.  Harrow comes from the Saxon word “hergae” meaning temple or shrine. The famous Harrow Hill is believed to be the sight of a pagan place of worship.  It is one of the highest spots in the area of London formerly known as Middlesex. King Henry VIII visited the hill whilst hunting and in 1572 Queen Elizabeth I granted a charter for a school to be started.  Even though this school, now known as Harrow Public School, started with one pupil, it has educated men such as Lord Byron, Sir Robert Peel (Prime Minister and founder of the Metropolitan Police), and Sir Winston Churchill. With the growth of the railway lines and especially the Metropolitan Railway, Harrow grew to be an important suburb.  Industry also found its place there with Kodak Ltd being the area’s largest private employer.  Whitefriars glassworks relocated to Harrow from the city of London.  It is currently considered one of the top ten office centres in Greater London.

Harrow

Nov. 17, 2011

Psalm 79:9
New Living Translation (NLT)
9 Help us, O God of our salvation!
Help us for the glory of your name.
Save us and forgive our sins
for the honor of your name.
Please pray for the peoples of Harrow to call out to God for help.  May those living in this borough recognize their need for God, understand the history the Bible contains and experience the supernatural change that Jesus brings.

NO!  It’s not about taking your old sofa down to the beach or trying to stand up on it while strapped to the roof of the car.  It’s about making deep connections with people who live in your adopted borough!
