Borough of Enfield
Enfield is London’s most northern borough. The open green spaces that have been preserved were once the hunting grounds for the royal family especially during the Tudor era. The borough has housed as many as 220 manufacturing industries over the last 200 years. It produced firearms including the Lee Enfield rifle and was the place where the Diode Valve was invented paving the way for radio, television and computers. The world’s first colour television was produced in Enfield. Authors John Keats, Thomas Hardy and John Betjeman spent time in this area of London. In 2012, the eastern part of the borough will host various events for the Olympics due to its connection with the Lee River and the Lee Valley.
