Borough of Barnet
This outer London borough in the northwest is currently the fourth largest borough in London. It was once covered in forest and was the site of the Battle of Barnet which was a key position in the Wars of the Roses. It was also an agricultural area that grew hay for horses and where sellers brought cattle from far distances to be sold to London dealers. Agriculture slowly gave way to industrialization. As London expanded from the centre outwards with the advance of the railways, suburbs developed in these outlying areas. Barnet was also the site for the Middlesex County Pauper Lunatic Asylum. It’s now currently refurbished as luxury flats.
In addition to the railways making tracks through the borough, the area also became a centre for aviation with an airfield built in 1910 which later housed an aircraft factory during World War II. It is currently the site for the Royal Air Force Museum. Middlesex University is located in the borough as well as the largest Jewish community in the UK. Harold Abrahams of Olympic fame in the 1920s grew up in this area.
Prayer Requests for this Borough
Barnet
Ps 50:10
For every wild animal of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.
Please pray for the peoples of Barnet to embrace the truth that God owns everything and that He is never too busy for us. May the people, in their quiet moments as they walk along the pathways, be blown away by the gentle whisper of the God who loves them.

NO! It’s not about taking your old sofa down to the beach or trying to stand up on it while strapped to the roof of the car. It’s about making deep connections with people who live in your adopted borough!
