Borough of Barking & Dagenham
Historical Background
This northeast London borough was part of a Saxon settlement in Essex. When William the Conqueror made his way up from the south coast, he used Barking Abbey as his headquarters while the Tower of London was being built. Fishing was a major industry between 1300-1850’s at which time the expanding railway changed the riverfront into docks. Factories came to the area as a result with Britain’s first aircraft factory being built in 1909. In 1924, the Ford Motor Company bought land and built a factory producing cars and then later military vehicles during World War II.
Prayer Requests for this Borough
Barking and Dagenham
PS 71:17-18
O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to all the generations to come.
Please pray for the peoples of Barking & Dagenham to seek righteousness and justice and to know the strong hand of the Lord is different than any other hand that has ruled in the area.
